After the unusually quiet sacking of Hideo Kojima from Konami last year and the removal of his name from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the gaming world’s been abuzz with Kojima’s re-entry into the industry as well as his plans on his next game. Well, in E3 2016 in California, those questions and much more were answered.
Steam Account Value: The Gaming Industry’s Rockstar Returns
Halfway through Sony’s presentation in E3, Kojima strode along the stage and said a simple “I’m back.” After lapping up the very long, loud, and warm applause, he proceeded to show the audience a little something of the thing they were waiting for.
Many fans were heartbroken when it was announced that Kojima would no longer be working with Konami and that the much anticipated Silent Hills, made popular by its genuinely frightening gameplay, support of the great Guillermo Del Toro, starring Norman Reedus of Walking Dead fame, and, of course, helmed by Hideo Kojima himself, was cancelled.
For a year, people were crying over the fact that one of the greatest minds in the industry was robbed both mentally and creatively by a greedy and resentful company, leaving one of the most cherished franchises, Metal Gear, to be unequivocally dead. However, with Hideo Kojima starting up his own company and striking a deal with Sony to continue on his work/art, those cries for the fallen rockstar turned to cheers.
Death Stranding certainly does not disappoint.
But, frankly, the trailer released at E3 doesn’t even show anything other than the fact that Norman Reedus is once more on board with Kojima. In a surreal setting with ambiguous vibes, nobody is even sure what sort of game Death Stranding will turn out to be. Is it a horror game in the same vein as the cancelled Silent Hills? Will it more closely resemble his brainchild, Metal Gear?
Nobody knows at this point and Kojima is quiet as usual, keeping the industry in suspense. Heck, the game doesn’t even have a release date as is the norm of a Kojima game in production. Whatever it is, Hideo Kojima has proven time and time again that it’s impossible for him to deliver an underdeveloped and incomplete game. We can only stand in giddy as we await whatever pinnacle of gaming Kojima can bring us.
Slated to be released and, surprisingly, on PC, the Steam account value will certainly rise after this is released on the platform.
