Year Walk: A Background for Steam Account Users
Year Walk is a mystery horror adventure game developed and published by Simogo, a Swedish mobile game developer, in 2013. The eerie game is said to be based on an old Swedish tradition called “Årsgång” (which means “Year Walk”). The game is available on Windows and Mac via Steam and on WiiU. It even has a side app on mobile called Year Walk Companion which contains a comprehensive guide about the creatures you may encounter in the world of Year Walk. The companion app is totally free on iTunes and Google Play Store!
Year Walk: Plot for Steam Account Users
Year Walk begins with the main protagonist, Daniel Svensson, who is visiting his lover, Stina. Early on mysteries are presented already as he hints that Stina has been proposed to, and warn the player about the dangers of year walking, even implying that her cousin had died while engaging in the activity. Despite this, Daniel returns home and prepares to engage in the Year Walk anyway.
The objective of the Year Walk ritual is to make your way to a church in order to see the future and get a prophecy. As he journeys to find the church, Daniel encounters mythical creatures from Swedish folklore like the Huldra, the Brook Horse, Mylings, the Night Raven, and finally the Church Grim which the player may research through the companion app, Year Walk Companion. He also notices eerie things like traces of blood. Will he dare to move on with his journey?
