Have a thing for assassination and stealth video games like Assassin’s Creed or Thief? If you haven’t played it yet, then Dishonored might just be the game for your Steam account value. Dishonored is a 2012 first-person, stealth action video game from Arkane Studios, published by Bethesda Softworks. Know more about the game in the article below.
Dishonored: Play as Corvo Attano on your Steam Account
The story follows Corvo Attano, the last bodyguard to the Empress Jessamine Kaldwin, framed for her murder and the abduction of her daughter. He escapes on the eve of his execution with the help of a clandestine group of Loyalists, after being imprisoned by the Empress’ Royal Spymaster and usurper, Hiram Burrows, for six months. The Loyalists seek to eliminate those involved in the assassination of the Empress in order to pave the way to the throne for the rightful heir, Emily. Corvo is further assisted by an enigmatic god known as The Outsider, who grants him supernatural abilities for reasons unknown. He now takes on the role of an infamous assassin as he tracks down members of the coup one by one—however, as the player you decide whether Corvo is out for justice or for revenge.
Save Dunwall and Exact Vengeance in Dishonored on your Steam Account
Dishonored is set in a steampunk retro-industrial city of Dunwall, now ravaged by a rat plague and led by despotic rulers. Corvo has an arsenal of weapons at his disposal, as well as supernatural abilities granted by The Outsider, that you can utilize creatively to accomplish each of the missions. The player can access the entirety of a level from sewer systems and waterways to rooftops, as the game features free running in order to scale buildings, slide under obstacles, and sprint across platforms. There are also many areas open to exploration that grant rewards and experience to venturesome players.
Chaos System: Cause and Effect in Dishonored on your Steam Account
You can complete missions through head-on violence or you can sneak through the environment without being detected to clear your objectives—it’s entirely up to you; however, the decisions you make and the actions you execute largely affects the world and the story of Dishonored. The game has a chaos system that tracks the game’s world-state, and is directly affected by Corvo’s actions. The more destructive your actions are, the more chaotic the world becomes. While some actions are less chaotic, such as killing a guard and hiding his body, triggering an alarm or killing civilians provoke a greater response. Changes in chaos level results in in-game adjustments, like rat populations or dialogue differences. Other noticeable consequences may also take effect, such as more patrolling guards or characters that are hostile towards Corvo. Once chaos reaches critical levels, NPCs become more aggressive, rat issues worsen, and the world becomes more and more difficult to live in. There are side missions that may lower existing chaos, though, if executed properly.
It’s a dog-eat-dog world in Dishonored where you have to do what you must. There are no ‘entirely good’ decisions when you play the game, as the chaos level measures stability and not morality. But Dishonored just lures you in with its rich plot and its likeable protagonist. The player may be determined to keep Corvo from being a man who is simply out for blood, or otherwise. The variety of options you have leads to multiple endings, which make dishonored a truly enjoyable and immersive game.
